24 Hour Comic Day 2026 – Billy Goats Gruff

24 Hour Comic Day came and went on October 3rd. Once again, I managed to squeeze out another fairy tale adaptation in as ingle day of illustration. This year, I made a comic based on that beloved Norwegian fairy tale, The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Full Disclosure: When I make these comics, I don’t follow the official 24 Hour Comic Day rules. Instead of doing everything on the day itself, I only do the illustrations on 24 Hour Comic Day. I write the script in advance so I can focus on speedy drawing during that one-day crunch. However, this year was pretty busy. When the big day arrived, my script was unfinished and I never blocked out a grid for panels. The only pre-day work I did was script that was about 80% complete and a “napkin illustration” of the characters that I drew during a slow stretch of an art fair. I still haven’t stuck to the rules, but this year, I came closer than ever.

The Billy Goats Gruff is the fourth in my series of comics based on fairy tales or folk tales. In the near future, I have plans to collect all of these comics in a way that makes them easier to find on the website. But, for now, here are the links to the previous 24 comics in the blog post: The Musicians of Bremen (2023), Chanticleer Raises the Sun (2024) and The Rat’s Groom (2025)

And now, our feature presentation:

The Billy Goats Gruff

Start Time: October 3rd, 7:00am, End Time: October 4th 4:36am

Total time: 21 hours, 36 minutes

The only draft (I don’t remember what the ice cream drawings were for.):
