Oh, sure, when a mermaid makes her little human shine, it's cute, but when a man fills his room with mermaid stuff, everyone's got opinions.

      The people of Fabelore invented anime-style body pillows before inventing animation. That seems like something they’d do. Yes, it’s nice to have a world where I get to decide what is and isn’t anachronistic.

        honestly hilarious and amazing, i love it. also the world has magic, maybe they do have moving pictures or drawings someone magicked into being! that, or it was just the captain’s sole idea and he had to come up to a tailor to explain in detail how he wanted a human-sized pillow of a mermaid, which is also amazing.

          I don’t think they have any moving pictures in Fabelore, but we have seen at least one etching, so printing presses, novels, and comics are a possibility. As for the pillow design, I think Captain Keelhaul is more of a collector than a designer. He probably saw a row of pillows at a bazaar and asked if they had any Ocean Fish.
