This Year’s Bonus Tree – The Hawthorn Tree

Why is there a bonus tree? There are thirteen trees in the Celtic Tree Zodiac. Since there are usually only twelve full moons in a year, all thirteen trees usually won’t have a correlating Full Moon every year. Even in years with a blue moon, is pretty unlikely that the moon phases and tree phases will flow neatly together. So, each year one tree’s phases will usually begin and end without a full moon. This year, the phase of the Hawthorn Tree doesn’t overlap any full moons. Therefore, the Hawthorn is not part of this year’s Full Moon Art Challenge. But I wanted a set of all 13 trees, so I made a Hawthorn anyway:

The Hawthorn is a symbol of Hope. It’s often connected to optimistically entering a new phase of life. For example, Hawthorn imagery can be included in wedding decor.

Coming Soon – The Oak Tree
