Reed the Room

The tree in season during November’s full moon is the Reed, the third and final tree that is not actually a tree. Reeds are a symbol of leadership because of their similarities to staffs or scepters.

Like the other non-trees that made the cut, Reeds were incredibly important in old societies, due to their usefulness as material. Reeds were used for broom bristles, woven mats, woodwind instruments, and more.

Reeds are also a symbol of purity. Nowadays, we know many reeds have the ability to take in contaminants from the water around them and neutralize them. I wonder if the ancient people had any understanding of this quality, or if their concept “purity” was completely symbolic and the fact that reeds actually do purify water was just a coincidence.
